FRANCE  Boehringer Ingelheim announced an investment of over EUR 200 million ($235 million) to establish a new vaccine production center France's Rhône-Alpes region. The investment is a record one-off investment by the company in its animal health division's production network, and will enable the firm to respond to growing global demand for the control of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and Bluetongue virus. (Animal Pharm) (July 2018)

ISRAEL  Nutreco announced it has acquired a meaningful minority share in Israeli start-up ViAqua to aid development of an orally administered particle-based treatment platform that improves resistance to viral diseases in shrimp. The firm is currently focused on developing its technology to combat white spot syndrome virus (WSSV). Nutreco's aquaculture division Skretting will work with ViAqua to bring its treatments to market. (Animal Pharm) (July 2018)
